You’ve spent your money buying a new mattress, and of course you want it to keep its shape for a long time and be clean. To keep the product in the best condition, it is enough to follow the care recommendations and use it correctly. Even an inexpensive mattress can serve you longer than stated by the manufacturer.
Mattress Life
The lifespan of a spring mattress depends on its type, design and fillers used. Most often, it is indicated by the manufacturer on the product label.
- The longest service life of mattresses based on natural latex is 20 years or more.
- Models on an independent spring mattress, spring block will serve you properly from 8 to 15 years.
- Springless products with artificial materials – from 7 to 12 years, depending on the quality of the filler and the manufacturer.
- spring mattresses on the Bonnel dependent block can be used for 5-9 years.
Mattress Care Rules
- Choose a mattress strictly according to the size of the bed. It should not be less or larger than the base. This will avoid wrinkles, deformation and abrasion of the surface.
- Observe the maximum permissible load per bed: It is always indicated by the manufacturer.
- Choose the base wisely: It can be solid or created by elastic lamellas. Keep in mind that slats can slightly increase the softness of the model due to a slight springy effect. Their advantage before a solid base is better ventilation of the bottom of the mattress.
- Turn the mattress regularly: When you sleep in the same position night after night, dents will inevitably appear under the heaviest parts of the body. Changing the head-leg position will help to keep the surface flat for as long as possible: turn the product horizontally about once every three months. It is also necessary to turn around its axis, i.e. to swap the sleeping sides, but only for double-sided mattresses! Once every six months, swap the top and bottom of the product. .
- Vacuum the mattress: Even the best cover will not be able to prevent dust from settling on the surface of the bed. To get rid of it, it is enough to clean it once a month with a vacuum cleaner while cleaning. It is strictly forbidden to knock out orthopedic models from dust!
- Use a protective mattress topper: It can always be removed and washed if the surface gets very dirty. It is not recommended to remove the manufacturer’s cover for cleaning, since in most cases it is almost impossible to pull it back on the fillers.
What Not To Do With The Mattress
- Do not jump on the mattress: Even small overloads from jumping of a small child can lead to damage to the spring mattress’s spring block or comfort layers. Manufacturers strongly recommend strictly adhering to this rule.
- Do not store the mattress upright: If you do not use it for a while, store it only in a horizontal position. If the product is on its side for a long time, the supporting structures can be deformed and become unusable.
- Do not fold or bend the mattress: This can lead to irreversible consequences.
- Do not put hot or iron on the surface: For breakfast in bed, it is better to use a special tray or table. The high temperature from an iron or kettle can destroy even the most reliable filler.
- Do not move the mattress against the outer wall of the apartment or house. It is best to leave a small gap between the wall and the bed. This will prevent mold and improve the ventilation of the inner layers.
- Do not place foreign objects under the mattress: They not only contribute to surface deformation, but also significantly reduce the orthopedic effect of the product.
